Hello ,

I hope that the arrival of the new year finds you happy, healthy and ready for all that the new year will bring. It is an exciting time to be involved in photography. There are so many great tools on the horizon that will help us as photographers practice our craft with greater power than ever before. I look forward to sharing these developments with you as they become reality.

So that I can continue to bring you the best information, multimedia pieces and video tutorials, please email me with the workflow topics that are most pressing to you and your business. What questions are you hoping to answer in the coming year? What changes do you plan to make in the way you shoot, prepare and deliver files to clients?

I hope that 2008 brings you prosperity, happiness and a load of great assignments that challenge you and help you explore your creativity.

Happy New Year!

Jay

TSA's Lithium Ion Regulations:
In case you haven't already heard, The Transportation Safety Administration (TSA), is regulating lithium-ion batteries in airplanes. The new regulation prohibits loose batteries in your checked baggage. You are still able to bring your spare batteries with you in your carry-on luggage. However, larger, more powerful batteries for video cameras and laptops may be affected in both carry-on and checked baggage. This link gives you detailed information on the new regulations.

Is newspaper video already dead?

Two insightful blog posts point to the struggles newspapers have had integrating video/multimedia content with the printed edition.

Get your Act Together With Video, Or Give It Up

While it is unlikely that newspaper video will go by the wayside, these articles underscore the importance of tying online assets to the printed page.

Driving Detroit

The Detroit Free Press recently released an ambitious project to create a snapshot of all  2,700 miles of streets in Detroit. Driving Detroit uses  Google Maps to reference photo galleries, panoramas and videos is a unique way to tie photos and videos with the place they were captured.

Multimedia Shooter has compiled a list of their favorite multimedia stories of 2007.

One of my favorite links from the list is the Washington Post's Issue Coverage Tracker that serves as an aggregator for mainstream and blog coverage of the candidates on the issues. Search by candidate or by issue and see what the presidential hopefuls have to say.

Need A Little Inspiration?
Harvard's Bio-Visions project aims to provide a visual tour of the inner workings of the cell. This stunning animation illustrates the complex processes at work inside each of our cells.

For more information on this project, watch medical illustrator David Bolinsky's lecture at the TED conference.
